Contrast Ratio
Another area where plasma excels is picture contrast, the ratio of the darkest to the brightest part of the picture. A high contrast ratio extends the display’s ability to render the range of gray steps between black and white. Independent tests revealed plasma’s ability to deliver an amazing 3000:1 contrast ratio—even outperforming a reference CRT monitor.* Unlike some TV technologies, plasma delivers in any ambient room lighting condition. What the camera sees is what you see.
Brightness
Plasma provides ample brightness for optimum viewing during both daytime and nighttime. There is abundant brightness to overcome ambient light levels within the room when watching TV during the day. In a darkened room, the brightness allows the set to be adjusted to bring out maximum detail in shadows and mid-tones.
Black Level
Plasma exhibits deep, rich black levels, producing a superior contrast ratio. It also ensure that colors are accurate and vivid. You’re treated to a vast array of visual subtleties that previously could only be enjoyed at the movies.
* Using factory settings, peak contrast ratios ranged as high as 3000:1, while average (ANSI) contrast ratios measured over 500:1 for the group. Even with low-level cinema or nighttime viewing modes activated, average (ANSI) contrast ratios measured from 238:1 to 576:1—well above that of the reference CRT monitor of 80:1.
